Value analysis is related to logistics and supply chain management; it’s the practice of identifying potential savings in procurement negotiations.
Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) is a wood product made by bonding together perpendicular layers of timber to form a composite material. Cross-lamination creates enormous strength and stability in multiple directions and enables new construction methods. Regular lumber is generally less expensive. However, it’s primary strength is in a single direction and therefore requires multiple members to be joined together to complete any floor, wall, or roof system. The added time and complexity of constructing with regular lumber can offset additional material costs of CLT, especially in situations involving short timeframes and/or high strength requirements.
Mass timber construction uses engineered wood columns, beams, and panels made of laminated layers of wood. These structural members can be used in lieu of steel and concrete to form the frame of a building. This method has been popularized by architectural and engineering professionals who believe it could be part of a modern approach to sustainable construction.
Though there are many factors that influence construction, large mass timber buildings can be built in much less time than traditional steel or concrete buildings. The accelerated timeline can be accomplished because the fabrication of materials occurs off-site. This means that each part of the building is pre-fabricated to the approved specifications. The full structural assembly can be completed in a matter of weeks by our on-site crew during the construction phase.
